What is an IEC?

The Import Export Code (IEC) is a 10-digit code issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). It is mandatory for any business importing goods into or exporting goods out of India, and is required on the DGFT and customs portals as well as for receiving foreign remittances for exports.

Documents required

  • PAN of the business or individual.
  • Aadhaar / identity proof of the applicant.
  • Business address proof (electricity bill / rent agreement / sale deed).
  • Bank account details with a cancelled cheque, or a banker’s certificate.
  • Valid email ID and mobile number (for OTP-based verification).

Process

  2. Application — filed on the DGFT portal with Aadhaar/DSC verification.
  3. IEC issued — your 10-digit code, usually within a few days.
